Keyword Research needs to be done in a way that covers the following: 1.Niche identification – Identifying a niche really means identifying a market. In considering your market attractiveness, one needs to know: a. Are you knowledgeable or competent enough to produce a product or a service in a particular niche. b. How big is the niche? c. Are the keywords ‘buyer’s keywords? Try the MSN OCI tool to get an idea, see if competitors have been bidding on this keyword or related keywords. If they have been around, you can be pretty sure the keyword is one which generates buyers. d. How much competition do you have for both Organic and Paid Keywords? 2. Market sizing – Establish if there is healthy traffic for a keyword or a bunch of related keywords that make up a niche. How do you benchmark? Try benchmarking with something popular like MP3s or ‘Lady Gaga’ and see how that compares.
